I. Shortage of Fresh Water Resources
Shortage of drinking water and water for other uses is a major problem in many third world countries. This leads to conflicts between nations and between ethnic groups within nations. There is a struggle for control of these resources in a democratic process
As the countries of the Third World struggle with population growth, poverty, famines, and wars, their residents are discovering the environmental effects of these problems, in the form of increasing air, water, and land pollution.
The economically underdeveloped countries of Asia, Africa, Oceania, and Latin America, considered as an entity with common characteristics, such as poverty, high birthrates, and economic dependence on the advanced countries. The French demographer Alfred Sauvy coined the expression ("tiers monde" in French) in 1952
Teachers in the Eastern Cape are on a go-slow without consideration of the dire effect this has on the future of children in the schooling system. Quality of education is the real issue in South Africa.
Third World governments are often toppled by military coups or led by entrenched dictators. War and famine are prevalent. Malnutrition, unsafe water supplies, widespread prostitution and other unsafe sexual practices, and inadequate hospital facilities vastly increase the incidence of serious health problems such as AIDS, malaria, and tuberculosis.
Two epidemics are currently raging in poor countries – hunger and malnutrition and a more pernicious one, obesity, afflicting 42 million children under the age of five, 35 million of whom live in third-world countries like the Philippines.
3 Major Tobacco-Caused Problems are:-
1. Money used for tobacco purchase causes malnutrition in poor families.
2. Tobacco cultivation and using wood to flue-cure causes deforestation.
3. Most developing countries have huge trade deficits in tobacco products which drain their economies.

Simplistically, minimum wages are understood to cause employment losses but the argument is far more complex and there are welfare gains from minimum wages that need to be considered. The Newcastle clothing industry saw job losses and factory closures last year because factory owners refused to pay the minimum wage and were then shut down.
